Banyan Upper School was founded in 2007 to
educate high school students with
learning differences. It is a private, non-profit,
state approved high school for students with
average or above average intelligence whose academic success has been frustrated by one or more learning disabilities. At Banyan Upper School, we assist students who struggle with decoding, reading comprehension and written expression as well as language and math-based disabilities and social impairments.
The curriculum reflects the needs of every student and is individualized based on both the student’s needs as well as state mandated Individual Educational Plans. Personalized plans are an important part of our programs. We strive daily to provide students with a curriculum that will not only fulfill and exceed the state required standards, but will prepare them for higher education or employment in fulfilling careers. Our curriculum not only contains the state required courses but also prepares students for life beyond school through the Banyan Life and Career Skills Academy program.
Banyan Upper School’s instructional methods extend far beyond state guidelines and use numerous methodologies including but not limited to the Orton-Gillingham Program, the Wilson Reading Program, the Carnegie Math Program, Multi-sensory instruction, as well as utilizing multiple assistive technologies such as Nook eReaders, Kurzweill, Dragonspeak, Wii Fit, Write Out Loud and many more.
