Recommended Program of Study

Decoding

Decoding courses offer instruction and remediation in word identification, vocabulary development and encoding. Students are instructed utilizing the multi-sensory techniques endorsed by Orton Gillingham. Wilson Reading and Project Read are among the reading programs presented to students.

Reading

Reading courses offer instruction and remediation in vocabulary development and reading comprehension. Reading focuses on the analysis of various forms of literature including novels, short stories and poetry.

Language Arts

Language Arts courses offer instruction in grammar and written expression. The writing component includes personal narratives and descriptive essays.

Mathematics

Math courses offer instruction in number identification, calculation and problem solving utilizing multi-sensory and hands on exercises. Students are placed in leveled classes as per the goals and objectives as stated in the IEP.

Science

Science courses offer instruction as per the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards.

Social Studies

Social Studies courses offer instruction as per the New Jersey Core Curriculum.

Social Skills

Social Skills courses provide instruction, practice and the reinforcement of social skills for all students. Addressing social skills with students helps them to attain the maturity, responsibility and self-confidence that will enable them to maximize their academic abilities and social relationships.
