Wilson Reading System 3-day Introductory Course
August 21-23, 2018
The Wilson Reading System 3-day Introductory Course (formerly Wilson Introductory Workshop) provides an overview of the Wilson Reading System 4th Edition curriculum and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification. This course presents teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the five principles of literacy instruction that align with the Common Core Learning Standards (Vocabulary Development, Fluency, Comprehension, Phonemic Awareness, and Phonics). While attending this course, you will learn research-based, multisensory strategies to maximize the learning of students with reading difficulties.
Participants attending the WRS Introductory Course will gain a knowledge of selecting appropriate students who could benefit from the Wilson Reading System, program implementation, progress monitoring, scheduling, and creating a successful learning environment for students with reading and writing deficits.
After completing the WRS Introductory Course, participants will develop an understanding of:
- How to improve educational outcomes for students with dyslexia and/or students with reading difficulties
- The procedure for selecting appropriate students and identifying an appropriate point of entry into the Wilson Reading System
- Application of the WRS principles of instruction: explicit, sequential, cumulative, and diagnostic multisensory instruction
- The 10-part WRS Lesson Plan that utilizes the WRS lesson components: Decoding/Word Study, Encoding/Spelling, and Listening and Reading Comprehension
After completion of the WRS 3-day Introductory Course, participants can enroll in the WRS Level I Certification Training and/or the WRS Intensive Instruction: Online Course (Steps 1-6) within five years.
